Join the Maine Public team as our full-time Director of Classical Music and play a vital role in our growing Maine Public Classical network. This is an exciting opportunity to help preserve - and grow appreciation for - classical music in Maine and connect our very loyal audience to our state’s vibrant arts communities. Under the direction of the Director of Content and Programming Operations, the Director of Classical Music will oversee the daily programming and hosting of our local classical music offerings. This includes on-air hosting approximately 10 hours per week, overseeing playlists, and working with our hosts to continue to provide a warm, personable, and engaging on-air style. The Director of Classical Music will also serve as one of Maine Public’s primary ambassadors to Maine’s arts community and will steward our relationships in the performing arts community. The successful candidate must thrive in a professional and dynamic environment, work well both in a team environment and independently, and demonstrate an understanding and commitment to the mission-driven values of public media.

This position works on-site in our Portland Studios; the general schedule is currently Mondays through Fridays, with occasional nights, weekends, holidays.

Job Requirements: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Five years’ related experience required, including classical music program production/hosting and supervisory/management experience. Excellent communication skills required, including public speaking. Strong familiarity with classical music as well as its history and repertoire, and solid foreign language pronunciation skills required. Knowledge of and appreciation for public broadcasting classical music audience-building techniques essential. Demonstrated experience with MusicMaster or similar software required with a high aptitude and inclination to learn new technology. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook required. Familiarity with voice-tracking and automation software preferred. A valid driver’s license and pre-employment criminal background check is required.
