2022 Featured Sessions

PRPD presents the Virtual PRCC Summit, a 3-day virtual summit featuring presentations of general sessions, followed by panel discussions about the topics and issues raised in the presentations. This free virtual event, supported by CPB, is open to anyone who is interested in reaching new audiences and expanding their public service. The 2022 Public Radio Content Conference sessions featured during the PRCC Summit will remain available for anyone to watch along with the panel discussions from the Summit.

This year, more than four hundred public media professionals from across the globe came together, both at our in-person conference and the PRCC Summit, to be inspired and enlightened by high level presentations, discussions of national importance, professional development, training opportunities and networking with colleagues. We encourage you to watch these session recordings below - "Media Habits of Generation Z" gives us a glimpse of our future audience by exploring the audio habits of the next generation of listeners. "Starting from Scratch" features a group of veteran innovators as they share their experiences in starting new music services from scratch and keeping them vibrant along the way. "Raising the Bar for Local News" shares the wide-lens research on the general condition of public media journalism developed by the Public Media Futures project, funded by the Wyncote Foundation.

Please share this content with anyone else on your staff who you think will benefit from these discussions.

PRPD Members can view the full conference archive here. The full 2022 Conference Archive is available to non-members through October 31, 2022.

NPR station newsrooms, focused on broadcast and audio, must now do more. They must reach new audiences and develop digital news services to fill the vacuum left by newspapers’ decline. This session will share the wide-lens research on the general condition of public media journalism developed by the Public Media Futures project, funded by the Wyncote Foundation. Attendees will get an advance briefing on the 28-page report that will be published at the Tow Center for Digital Journalism at Columbia. Speakers will discuss the strengths, opportunities and shortcomings of “the system” as we know it. They will identify parts of the public media audience research and station support toolkit that may need revision. And they provide some hard talk about how public media fits within the movement” to rebuild local news” and why stations often struggle to attract the growing stream of non-profit journalism investment.
