PRPD Announces New President & Executive Director

After a national search, Public Radio Program Directors, Inc. is proud to announce that longtime public radio manager Abby Goldstein has been named its next President & Executive Director.

Goldstein starts her tenure on June 17, 2019. With 33 years of experience in the industry and a diverse background that includes major and small market stations in a variety of formats, Ms. Goldstein is uniquely positioned to understand the complexities of today’s public media environment. She began her career as a late night jazz host in southeast Texas at the station where her mother ran the membership program. She spent 17 years in Dallas working in commercial and non-commercial broadcasting, event production and music promotion before moving to New Hampshire Public Radio. As VP for Programming, Ms. Goldstein helped to transform the organization into an award winning, essential source for news and regional content. Since 2012, she has been the GM of WYEP in Pittsburgh, leading the station to unprecedented audience and revenue growth. Ms. Goldstein has served on local and national boards including 8 years on the PRPD Board of Directors from 2008 to 2016. “We’re excited to have someone with Abby’s breadth of experience and caliber lead PRPD,” said Todd Mundt, chair of the PRPD Board of Directors. “She has the energy and drive to make PRPD an even more important resource for members, and extend our value beyond the already successful conference.”

“I am honored that the PRPD Board has placed their confidence in me,” said Goldstein. “I have deep respect for the mission and goals of PRPD to nurture, promote and support the public media programming community so we can serve our audiences with distinction. As market forces and consumer behavior continue to change, public media has evolved to meet the demands of listeners who have more choices than ever before. PRPD has a place at the center of that evolution, educating, supporting and collaborating with our members to ensure we are meeting and exceeding audience expectations every day. I very much look forward to working with everyone in the public radio universe to achieve great things.”

The PRPD Public Radio Content Conference is August 26-29 in Minneapolis and registration is now open. Visit prpd.org for more information.
