This is an excellent major market opportunity to join WRTI’s team to produce and deliver engaging programming and content designed to serve a new generation of music lovers everywhere and celebrate the rich diversity of voices and experiences in classical music and jazz.
Reporting to the Associate General Manager for Content and Programming, the senior producer will produce and deliver innovative multichannel storytelling features and programs for the classical and jazz formats which further the station’s mission to champion music as a vital cultural resource. This role will manage existing and future original, acquisition and partnership broadcast content. The Senior Producer, with direction from the Associate GM will lead teams in developing and maintaining new and innovative broadcast content supporting WRTI’s editorial and content strategies with a focus on the intersection of music, culture, community and identity and celebrating diversity, representation and new voices.
This position produces and manages on-air and digitally distributed content including daily recurring and special programs, features, interviews and podcasts, ensures content strategically aligns with and promotes WRTI’s mission and creates measurable public service and engagement. The role will oversee assigned programming, broadcast and technical production teams, and act as a collaborative leader for internal staff and the liaison to external program partners, artists, sponsors and stakeholders. The Senior Producer is also responsible for implementing production best practice processes and procedures as well as assisting in training staff and mentoring other producers.
Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or the arts and at least five years of media work experience with two to three years of experience as a producer for multichannel content creation and distribution of multichannel programs or equivalent combination of training and experience related to the duties of the position. Project management leadership, music education or experience, and public media or non-profit cultural arts experience is preferred.
Required Skills & Abilities:
*Demonstrated experience as a producer delivering content for multichannel distribution including broadcast audio and digital
*Demonstrated broadcast program production experience
*Knowledge of public media and broadcast programming practices and standards
*Experience in developing, producing, and managing individual and serial multimedia content programs
*Experience in narrative storytelling, audio production including editing, scoring and tracking
*Demonstrated experience in editorial decision making
*Demonstrated skill in conceptualizing, planning and executing individual and multi-part stories.
*Demonstrated success managing project teams
*Demonstrated excellence in written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
*Ability to multitask and work on diverse projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
*Demonstrated ability to take direction and work collaboratively with various personalities
*Experience working with diverse partners to develop content and media on multiple platforms
*Demonstrated ability to build positive and productive relationships with staff, stakeholders, community partners and sponsors
*An understanding and commitment to WRTI’s mission with a deep passion for the Arts and a commitment to values of diversity, equity and inclusion
*Ability to work some weekend, evening and overnight travel (as needed)
Preferred Skills & Abilities
*Music education or experience
*Experience managing broadcast and audio production teams
*Experience with digital media
*Knowledge of non-profit fundraising and development practices
*Knowledge of the Philadelphia and mid-Atlantic regional arts and non-profit cultural community
*Familiarity and comfort with foreign languages (French, Italian, German, Spanish and Portuguese)
